Reading Edgar Allan Poe alongside his contemporaries often feels like discovering a modern voice misplaced in time. Surrounded by the polite conventions of 19th-century verse, his work strikes like a sudden, electric shock - visceral, dark, and utterly timeless. He didn't just tell stories; he built atmospheres you could feel in your bones.
That haunting presence directly shaped this piece. The illustration grew out of an earlier series of collages, assembled from vintage fragments hand-cut from discarded, weathered books. Over the years, the design quietly settled into something enduring and deeply personal to me. The raven never truly left Poe’s side - and here, perched close upon his shoulder, it remains forevermore.
