We have both appreciated the art and artists of the Pre-Raphaelite style for as long as we can remember. We love the art of John William Waterhouse inparticular. He had a long and illustrious career, exhibiting at the Royal Academy Summer exhibition every year from 1874-1916 with the exception of 2 years. We love his embrace of classicism, bold colors of nature and attention to detail, not to mention his complex and daring subject matter.
This is another one of Waterhouses paintings that was inspired by an Alfred lord Tennyson poem. This piece is also a little unusual for Waterhouse as it is one of only a few that were not referenced from historical tales. This piece has a beautiful warm palette, lovely free strokes and some stunning natural sunlight coming in from above.
