He is best remembered as the inspiration for Bram Stoker's famous novel, Dracula. Bram Stoker was the first, however to conflate Vlad's barbarism and vampirism. The vampirism although not true does not diminish the ablsolute barbarity and cruelty of the man himself. Vlad III, also known as Vlad the Impaler was prince of Wallachia 3 different times during his life. His true history of torture and sadism is in fact far more disturbing, countless and gripping than most vampire stories.
