There are many artists who have successfully and dramatically tackled the theme of Judith beheading Holofernes. I was impressed with Klimt's version of Judith gazing, almost remorseless while holding the severed head to her side. Whereas most artists in the past had chosen to depict the actual gruesome act of decapitation in progress, Klimt's interpretation takes place sometime after the fact with a much more serene, if not even sensual expression on Judith's face. Oh my.
I assembled the original collage using a restored image of Judith set against an old book page, decorative flowers and pieces of text from a Tennyson poem.
