We have both appreciated the art and artists of the Pre-Raphaelite style for as long as we can remember. We love the art of John William Waterhouse inparticular. He had a long and illustrious career, exhibiting at the Royal Academy Summer exhibition every year from 1874-1916 with the exception of 2 years. We love his embrace of classicism, bold colors of nature and attention to detail, not to mention his complex and daring subject matter.
This is another striking image by Waterhouse completed in either 1900 or 1901. This piece is not based off of any known specific historical work as are many of his other pieces. A delicate, yet powerful and somewhat confounding piece. Waterhouse had originally wanted to submit this piece to the Royal Academy in 1888, but did not complete it in time. Instead he submitted his one of his many Ophelia paintings.
