Mary's life started off tumultuously, being promised off for marriage even before she had reached early childhood. Several times actually. Heck, the French King, Henry II thought she would be a great catch for his three year old son, the Dauphin Francis. Mary was a smart young woman, learning multiple languages and noted for being a good writer of prose and poetry. However there is no doubt she was reared and used as a political pawn throughout her life, being imprisoned by her own cousin Queen Elizabeth I for 19 years. Her life was filled with intrigue, assassination attempts, exile, abductions, murders, military victories, defeats, betrayal and real love.

Mary was implicated in the "Babbington Plot", a plot to assassinate Queen Elizabeth, a Protestant, so that she, a Catholic could be placed on the throne.  It is reported that as she knelt before her executioners who had asked for her forgiveness she said.  "I forgive you with all of my heart, for now, I hope you shall make an end of all my troubles."   Her biography is deep and extensive for someone who lived such a short life.
