Mary Shelley was born on August 30, 1797 to famed feminist Mary Wollstonecraft and political writer and philosopher William Godwin. She was surrounded by intellectuals and books during her youth. Her mother died very early in her life and she really never got to know her.
Mary began a relationship with poet Percy Shelley when she was only a teenager and he was still a married man. While staying with Lord Byron on vacation, she had the idea to write her most famous novel, Frankenstein. It was a huge success and helpted them out greatly financially. They had a romantic, yet tumultuous marriage that ended tragically when Percy tied in a drowning accident. She wrote several more novels after her husbands death and passed away from in England in 1851.
