Grace Dalrymple Elliott was born in 1754 to a family of non nobility yet was able through her charisma to find a strong foothold into high society and the world of nobility for most of her adult life. She carried on several romances with high ranking nobles of her time. She witnessed firsthand the French Revolution from a cell awaiting death by guillotine. Grace was a strong supporter of the French Monarchy and was a follower of Louis XVI. She was imprisoned numerous times throughout her later life, but always managed to have herself released while maintaining most of her wealth and status. Her relationships with the very powerful, including Napoleon Bonaparte, George, Prince of Wales among many others surely helped her in these circumstances. She passed away in 1823.
