The Muses we have on Tartx represent the 9 goddesses who embody all arts, and inspire creation and indeed all learning. The word muse comes from the Greek Mousa and literally means "art". The muses have been invoked in the literature of Homer, Virgil, Dante, Chauser, Shakespeare and Milton. In the 18th century famous Masons such as Benjamin Franklin, Danton and Voltaire sought to establish a modern Cult of the Muses. As a result of this movement the word "museum" began to be formally known as a public place to display knowledge.
