Many artists have painted, drawn and sculpted Persephone, Princess of the Underworld over the past 3000+ years but artist and painter Dante Gabriel Rossetti's piece which took at least 7 years to complete is as personal and beautiful as any before it. The very story of the model, Jane Morris, for his painting and the relationship she shared with her husband and Rossetti in many ways reflected many of the myths of Proserpine. The symbolism is very deep, personal and authentic in this piece.
