Queen Astrid of Belgium, Princess of Sweden

Astrid Sofia Lovisa Thyra was born in Sweden on Nov. 17, 1905. She was the daughter of Prince Carl and Princess Ingeborg of Denmark. Once becoming of age Astrid became a most eligible potential bride for many of the Prince's of Europe. In September of 1926 she decided she would marry Prince Leopold of Belgium. It was said to be a true love built on genuine admiration and respect and not political in nature. Their relationship was received warmly by the Belgian people. She was a very popular Pricness revered by the people for her sense of charm and compassion. Astrid had 3 children before dying tragically in a car accident in which her husband was the driver.
