Tatiana Romanov was the second child of the last Monarchy of Russia, the daughter of Tsar Nicholas II and Empress Alexandra born on May 29, 1897. She was known as a bright, spunky, spontaneous child. As she was growing up it was said she was keenly aware of her high title and the many privileges it brought yet she was equally as gracious and embarrassed by those privileges. As a young woman of royal status Tatiana found herself visiting hospitals caring for the wounded of WWI. She was growing into a woman noted for "a mixture of sincerity, straightforwardness and perseverance, with the inclination to poetry and abstract ideas".

Soon after her father's abdication in March of 1917, revolution broke out in full force and the Romanov family came under seige, was placed under house arrest and moved (imprisoned) to humbler houses.  The family was adapting to these new surroundings and life situation when a radical Bolshevik coup took power.  The family was separated.  On July 14th 1918 the entire Romanov family was bayonetted and shot by Bolshevik guards.  There were rumors that Tatiana somehow escaped and may have even survived,.  Although some of these individuals fooled some of the populace they were all proven to be impersonators.
