Uncle Sam Recruiting Poster
An excellent way to carry art with you. This pocket mirror features Uncle Sam from J. M. Flagg's 1917 poster, based on the British "Lord Kitchener" poster of three years earlier. It was used to recruit soldiers for both World War I and World War II.

This example is undoubtedly the most famous American example of a military recruitment poster. Created by James Montgomery Flagg (reportedly using his own face as the model) in 1915 and used as a recruitment poster for WWI. It was later brought out for use in WWII. "Uncle Sam" predates the poster by 100 years and is a "common national personification" of the American government that came into use in the War of 1812.
