There is something about a great poster, well several things really that occasionally elevate "just a poster" to something approaching really great art! We love the long history that posters have in popular and populist culture, both above ground and below ground. We have collected a series of Propaganda posters, most from the 20th century
This example is undoubtedly the most famous American example of a military recruitment poster. Created by James Montgomery Flagg (reportedly using his own face as the model) in 1915 and used as a recruitment poster for WWI. It was later brought out for use in WWII. "Uncle Sam" predates the poster by 100 years and is a "common national personification" of the American government that came into use in the War of 1812.
